Btw, who are you?!

Glad you asked. My name is Hrag Vartanian and people best know me as an art critic, but that’s not all I do. I’m also an editor, writer, curator, and artist.

I was born in Aleppo, Syria, raised in Toronto, Canada, and have been living in New York City for over 20 years. I’ve worked at colleges, nonprofits, and now I run Hyperallergic, an arts publication (we often call it a blogazine), with my husband Veken Gueyikian.

Hyperallergic takes up most of my time, but now that we have a very talented staff helping to run things I can devote some of my time to other things, like this newsletter. Hyperallergic reaches over a million readers a month and you should check that out if you haven’t (it also has daily and weekly newsletters that reaches over 200,000 subscribers). It’s a must-read about the intersection of art and politics, but also much more than that.
